Membership

Whether from a seedstock or commercial operation, all youth interested in Red Angus can develop leadership skills and explore the industry through membership in the ND Junior Red Angus Association. 

The NDJRAA provides its members with excellence and innovation in leadership, service, information, and education.  Application for membership in the NDJRAA will also include membership in the Junior Red Angus Association of America (JRA).

Educational Programs

Rise Up Sessions

Rise Up Sessions are online educational events designed to expose NDJRAA members to career opportunities, beef management practices, the Red Angus breed and mentors in the beef and agricultural industries.  These sessions are held in November, January and February via Zoom. The Rise Up Sessions are open to anyone that wants to participate.

Yahoo’s & Buckaroos Field Day

Yahoo’s & Buckaroos Field Day is an in-person educational and leadership development event. Activities include the NDJRAA annual meeting and election of officers and royalty; as well as industry and operation tours, cooking demonstrations and contests, ag Olympics, advocacy training and a quiz bowl.

ND Junior Red Angus State Show

The ND Junior Red Angus State Show is held annually at the ND State Fair in Minot, ND.  Participants must be a member of the NDJRAA and attend a mandatory membership and show registration meeting to participate.  Dues and show entry fees may be paid at this meeting.

T-Shirt Design Contest

The T-Shirt Design Contest is open to NDJRAA members to design the T-shirt that will be given at the ND Junior Red Angus Association State Show held during the ND State Fair in Minot, ND.  Prize-$50 winning design.

County Buckle Program

The County Buckle Program is administered through the ND Junior Red Angus Association.  The buckles are sponsored by donors who participate in the Diamond and Ruby levels in the Sponsor Campaign.

Scholarships

The ND Junior Red Angus Association offers several scholarships which can be applied for though and application.  These scholarships include: 

$1000 Scholarship to a NDJRAA member that is a High School Senior or College Freshman.

$500 Scholarship to NDJRAA member that is a High School Senior or College Freshman.

$500 Scholarship to a NDJRAA member that is a second year plus College or Trade school student.  This scholarship can be given to a High School Senior or College Freshman if there are no applicants.

Top Hand Awards

The North Dakota Red Angus Association recognizes that youth are the future of our breed and agriculture in North Dakota. This prestigious award is based upon the advocacy of the beef industry, in particular, the Red Angus breed and leadership that has been exhibited by the nominee through the NDJRAA and other various activities, as presented in their report form.

The Top Hand Award is designed to recognize one outstanding Junior NDJRAA member each year at the NDRAA annual banquet held in December. The Junior Top Hand Award is only available to current NDJRAA members that are 14 years of age and younger as of October 1.

The NDRAA Junior Top Hand Award recipient will receive an award presented by the NDRAA and $250.

Travel Scholarship

NDJRAA members may apply for funding to help with travel costs and event fees for events. Events include but are not limited to national JRA or RAAA events, educational events (ex. AI schools), NDSA Top Hand seminar etc. Applicants must apply by completing the application form.

Mentor Award

The North Dakota Junior Red Angus Association recognizes individuals who have shared their knowledge, skills, support, and experience to help members of the ND Junior Red Angus Association achieve excellence in personal and life skills development. This award is nominated and selected by the members of the NDJRAA.

Rise Up Award

The North Dakota Junior Red Angus Association recognizes individuals who have gone above and beyond to help ND Junior members “Rise Up” and be successful in our programs and activities. This award is nominated and selected by the members of the NDJRAA.

Fundraising

The North Dakota Junior Red Angus Association relies on donations for various fundraising events.  Fundraising efforts support the scholarship and awards programs as well as the programs offered by the NDJRAA.

Annual Silent Auction

The NDJRAA hosts a Silent Auction held during the NDRAA Annual Banquet and concludes at the beginning of the ND Red Select Sale.

Donation Semen Sale

The Donation Semen Sale is the NDJRAA’s biggest fundraiser. Elite semen and or embryo packages are donated by breeders across the United States and Canada.  Acquisition of these packages starts in June of every year and concludes in September.  Donations along with photos of the bull are printed in the ND Red Select Catalog.  The sale is broadcasted live over DV Auction. The NDJRAA Donation Semen sale has gained the reputation of being one of the most elite and prestigious semen sales offered.

Pie Hollywood, rare semen package donated by Hansine sold for $1800 (1 unit) and $1400/straw (4 units).

Campaign Sponsor Program

The NDJRAA conducts a Campaign Sponsor Program.  The county buckles are sponsored through the Diamond and Ruby levels of sponsorship.

Queen/Royalty/Ambassador

The ND Junior Red Angus Association maintains the NDRAA Queen/Royalty/Ambassador program. Individuals applying for this program must be able to sign a code of conduct and be responsible for representing the ND Red Angus Association at events.

ND Red Select Sale

The ND Red Angus Association offers opportunities for juniors to apply for sale credit to apply towards a heifer purchase at the ND Red Select Sale.
